Laycock and District WI was founded in April 1955, the meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of the Month at Laycock Village Hall at 7.30pm
Laycock and District is a flourishing WI and members are mainly drawn from the surrounding villages, although anyone is more than welcome to join us. A committee of 10 members are elected at the AGM in March, they consist of a President, Secretary, Treasurer and the remaining seven fill in the other tasks, along with non committee members.
During our monthly meetings we have a short business section, then either a speaker, demonstration, or sometimes just a social style evening, we also have a competition which is usually relevant to the speaker, each of the top three winners receive points which are added up throughout the year and at the AGM the three members with the most points win a prize.
Our August meeting usually consists of a walk and a meal afterward, this is an ideal way to get to know the other members, and our November meeting is a Christmas Party. We have many social outings which have over the years included theatre outings, wine tasting, bread making, pub quizzes, croquet, greyhound racing, archery and Ascot to name a few, we have had lessons in flower arranging, calligraphy, line dancing, and are always open to suggestions.
Membership subscriptions are due in January each year and the sum you pay is divided between the National Federation, the West Yorkshire Federation and the larger portion is retained by the Institute. The amounts are set out each year by the National Federation. When you join you will receive your membership book and your WI programme for the year, and the WI Life which is the national magazine, there are 8 issues of this.
